Three guides you can use this week.
Guide
Five questions to ask any technology provider
- What exactly is included, and what happens when a problem crosses into another provider's service?
- Who owns the accounts, domains, licenses, and equipment if we part ways?
- What does the renewal look like, and how much notice do we have to give?
- How do you handle a request outside the contract, and what does it cost?
- Who do we call at 6 p.m. on a Friday, and what actually happens when we do?
Guide
Before you renew a contract
- Pull the original agreement and find the auto-renew clause and notice period.
- List what the service was supposed to solve. Is that still the problem?
- Ask what has changed in price, terms, and included service since you signed.
- Check the dependencies: what else stops working if this service changes?
- Get a recommendation before you get quotes. Then compare against your requirements, not the brochure.
Guide
What to gather before we talk
- The outcome you want, in a sentence. Not the product.
- Who provides what today: internet, phones, IT, website, alarm, cabling. Rough is fine.
- Anything that has broken or gone wrong in the last year.
- Renewal dates you know about, and any move, growth, or change on the horizon.
- What you believe is standing in the way. You may be right, and that's a good place to start.
